Earlier this year the Paterson Historical Society's secretary for 33 years Pauline Clements decided to call it a day and pass the baton to someone new.
The Society thanks Pauline for her invaluable contribution during her tenure as Secretary and look forward to many more invaluable years of contribution to come being a member.
Congratulations Pauline.
The Maitland Mercury for 17 June 2009 reported her retirement as such:
Pauline Clements’ love affair with the history of Paterson is as long as it is passionate.
From her earlier days as foundation member of the Paterson Preservation Society, to her role as secretary of the thriving Paterson Historical Society, Ms Clements has been there to document, record and preserve.
But after 33 years, Ms Clements, now 81, has decided to call it a day.
“There is a bit of regret in handing over the reins,” Ms Clements said.
“But the time has come for change and it has to be done. If I dropped off the perch tomorrow, I would like to know that the society is in good hands and will keep going.”
Society president Cameron Archer said Ms Clements’ service to the society is possibly one of the longest and most productive in the country and praised her service to history and the community.
“I have no knowledge of anyone serving at an executive level in any other historical society that would equal Ms Clements’ contribution,” Dr Archer said.
“Ms Clements’ intricate knowledge of the history of the village and district, her meticulous attention to detail and to recording of historical events have been so important to the village and the benefits of her labours will accrue for a long time to come.”
